ROME,Italy -- Sampdoria climbed to third in Serie A with a 1-0 victory over relegation-threatened Brescia.
Max Tonetto's second-half goal took Sampdoria above Udinese, who drew 2-2 with Fiorentina, and Inter Milan, who play AC Milan on Sunday.
Udinese came from two goals down at Fiorentina to salvage a point.
After a quiet first half Sampdoria increased the pressure, but struggled to find a way past keeper Luca Castellazzi who pulled off a superb fingertip save to tip a Cristiano Doni freekick round the post.
With just under a quarter of an hour remaining, however, a corner was cleared to the edge of Brescia's area, where Tonetto was waiting to blast home the winner.
Fiorentina allowed two points to slip away in their battle against relegation.
The twice Italian champions were hovering one point above the relegation zone, having lost four of their previous five matches, but appeared to be well in control after early goals by Valeri Bojinov and Luca Ariatti.
Four minutes before halftime, however, Fiorentina keeper Cristiano Lupatelli palmed a shot by Udinese's Antonio Di Natale into the path of fellow striker Sulley Muntari, who pulled one back for the visitors.
Fiorentina came out aggressively after the break, with Fabrizio Miccoli firing narrowly wide, but in the 56th minute David Di Michele nodded on to Di Natale who rifled the equalizer into the roof of the net.
In the 88th minute Udinese midfielder Giampiero Pinzi was sent off for a second bookable offence, but Fiorentina did not have time to make their one-man advantage count.
