BERLIN, Germany -- Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich will not allow England midfielder Owen Hargreaves to break his contract, general manager Uli Hoeness said Monday.
"Owen stays, and that's the end of it," Hoeness told Kicker magazine regarding the 24-year-old player who has been strongly linked with Liverpool.
Hargreaves' contract runs until June 30, 2006 and German media reported last week that Bayern would let him go for a fee of around seven million euros.
Tottenham and Blackburn have also been linked with Hargreaves, but reports suggest Liverpool -- they face AC Milan in Wednesday's Champions League final -- are now favorites to complete a summer deal.
England coach Sven-Goran Eriksson is believed to have told Hargreaves that his chances of making the squad for the 2006 World Cup in Germany would be improved by a move to the Premiership.
