Brazilians maintain top FIFA spot


ZURICH, Switzerland -- World Cup holders Brazil maintained first place in the monthly football rankings issued by FIFA on Wednesday, the day before they start their Confederations Cup campaign against Greece.

The Netherlands moved above France into fourth place.

The Dutch who are well on the road to qualifying for next year's World Cup finals in Germany, are on 783, two points adrift of third-placed Argentina, with the Czech Republic on 790.

Other Confederations Cup contestants rankings are: Greece 13th, Japan 18th, hosts Germany 21st, Tunisia 38th and Australia 57th.

The Confederations Cup runs from Wednesday until June 29.

The FIFA rankings take into account national team games over a 12-month period.
