Mexes and Roma appeal FIFA ruling
![]() Mexes' controversial move to Roma is now likely to be settled by the CAS ZURICH, Switzerland -- Philippe Mexes and his club Roma have appealed against FIFA's ruling that he should pay 8m euros to compensate former club Auxerre for breach of contract. Auxerre have also appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne. However, they are asking for the ruling, decided in May, to be recalculated because they believe it is insufficient. French defender Mexes joined Roma before his Auxerre contract expired and although the governing body ratified the move, it said the French club was entitled to compensation. Mexes also had to serve a six-week ban at the start of last season. Mexes and Roma have asked CAS to "annul the FIFA decision and to state that Auxerre did not establish the existence of a prejudice further to the transfer of the player", in other words that Auxerre failed to prove they had suffered damages. CAS generally makes a decision within four months of an appeal being filed.
