Brazil unchanged for Chile fixture

Parreira will be confident about Brazil booking their World Cup place

RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil -- World champions Brazil have named an unchanged squad for next month's World Cup qualifier at home to Chile -when they hope to book their place in Germany.

Coach Carlos Alberto Parreira named the same 22 players who travelled to Split for Wednesday's 1-1 friendly international draw away to Croatia.

Parreira said he hoped his strike pair of Ronaldo and Adriano would be in better shape for the game.

"Ronaldo and Adriano didn't have the rhythm they needed. I hope they will be in better physical shape and with more motivation," he said.

Ronaldinho and defender Roque Junior are suspended after picking up second yellow cards in the 3-1 defeat by Argentina in June.

Brazil, the only team to have played at every World Cup tournament, will keep their unique record intact if they beat Chile in Brasilia on September 4.

Even if they do not win, they still have games away to Bolivia and at home to Venezuela to book their place.

Brazil are second in the 10-nation South American group with 27 points from 15 games, four points behind Argentina who have already qualified.

The top four teams go straight to the finals in Germany and the fifth-placed side plays off against Australia or the Solomon Islands for another berth.

Brazil have already booked a friendly away to the United Arab Emirates on November 12, the day when one leg of the playoff is due to take place.

The CBF said the same squad, minus Santos midfielder Ricardinho, would also travel to Spain to face Sevilla in a friendly on September 6 as part of the Spanish club's centenary celebrations.

Squad:

Goalkeepers: Dida (AC Milan), Julio Cesar (Inter Milan)

Defenders: Cafu (AC Milan), Cicinho (Sao Paulo), Roberto Carlos (Real Madrid), Gustavo Nery (Corinthians), Alex (PSV Eindhoven), Luisao (Benfica), Juan (Bayer Leverkusen), Lucio (Bayern Munich)

Midfielders: Renato (Sevilla), Emerson (Juventus), Gilberto Silva (Arsenal), Juninho (Lyon), Ze Roberto (Bayern Munich), Kaka (AC Milan), Julio Baptista (Real Madrid), Ricardinho (Santos)

Forwards: Robinho (Santos), Ronaldo (Real Madrid), Ricardo Oliveira (Real Betis), Adriano (Inter Milan).
