WOLFSBURG, Germany -- German Bundesliga side Wolfsburg have signed Portuguese international defender Alex but have yet to sign Fulham's French striker Steve Marlet.

Alex, whose real name is Domingos Alexandre Martins Costa, leaves Portuguese champions Benfica for a four year contract with the German outfit.

The transfer saga concerning Marlet continues as Wolfsburg claim the deal has yet to be completed but the 31-year-old forward has agreed to sign.

Marlet cost English Premiership side Fulham 16.6 million euros in 2001 but is waiting to finalise his financial settlement with them before making the move.

Wolfsburg, who lost Bulgarian striker Martin Petrov to Atletico Madrid this summer for 10 million euros, are ninth in the Bundesliga with two points from two matches.
