Sub Cisse is Super Cup matchwinner
![]() Cisse revives Liverpool with an 82nd minute equalizer MONACO (CNN) -- Djibril Cisse came off the substitutes' bench to score twice and create another goal as Liverpool won the European Super Cup by beating CSKA Moscow 3-1 after extra time in Monaco. The Champions League winners were trailing the UEFA Cup holders with eight minutes of normal time left in a mediocre contest when Cisse, who had been brought on three minutes earlier, scored a scrappy equalizer. In the 13th minute of extra time he struck again and six minutes afterwards crossed for Luis Garcia to head a third. CSKA, the first Russian side to appear in the Super Cup, started brightly and went ahead in the 28th minute when Brazilian Daniel Carvalho sprinted through the Liverpool defense after a slip by Sammy Hyypia and steered the ball past the advancing Jose Reina. Liverpool, who omitted inspirational captain Steven Gerrard, who is recovering from a calf injury, started off with only six of the side who lifted the Champions League trophy bin May. They certainly did not look like champions in the early exchanges against CSKA, whose only absentee from their UEFA Cup final line-up was Croatian midfielder Ivica Olic, who is out for six months with a knee injury. On targetThe Russians were on target for victory until Cisse, who could be leaving Liverpool for a French club if Michael Owen returns to Anfield, appeared in the 79th minute, replacing John Arne Riise. Almost immediately he made an impact after a through ball from Hyypia. Garcia chested the ball down but Sergei Ignashevich got to the ball and tried to hook it away, only to fire it against Cisse, who charged past goalkeeper Igor Akinfeyev and booted the ball into the empty net. With two minutes of the first period of extra time left Cisse put Liverpool ahead, needing two attempts to bundle the ball past Akinfeyev. After 109 minutes Cisse sped down the right wing and crossed for the unmarked Garcia to head home number three. ![]()
