Anthuenis future set to be decided
YOUR E-MAIL ALERTSBRUSSELS, Belgium -- Aime Anthuenis' future as coach of Belgium is likely to be decided early next week. A spokesman for the Belgian FA said that he "expected to know a lot more by the end of business on Monday". Belgium, under the 61-year-old Anthuenis, have failed to qualify for the World Cup finals for the first time since 1978 after ending the qualifying campaign in fourth position in Group Seven. The Belgian FA's technical committee will choose a successor if Anthuenis is relieved of his duties and chairman Michel Preud'homme wants to have a new coach in place before the end of the year. "The draw for the qualification series for the 2008 European Championship is on January 27. I want to see the coach there and at the latest he will be appointed by the start of January," said Preud'homme. Denmark coach Morten Olsen, Rene Vandereycken, Eric Gerets and Marc Wilmots are viewed as possible front-runners for the Belgium job.
