MADRID, Spain -- Brazilian striker Diego Tardelli is poised to join Primera Liga basement side Real Betis on loan from Sao Paulo for the rest of the season.
The 20-year-old has arrived in Spain to sign for the Seville-based club and is expected to undergo a medical next week.
"I'm very happy because playing in Spain has always been a dream," said Tardelli.
"I want to help Betis get out of their present difficulties. I'm not setting a target for the number of goals I will score, but I hope there will be plenty."
Betis have been on the lookout for a new striker to replace last season's leading scorer Ricardo Oliveira who suffered a serious knee injury in last month's 1-0 Champions League victory over Chelsea.
The club said earlier this month that they had lined up loan deals for Liverpool striker Florent Sinama-Pongolle and Porto forward Helder Postiga, but coach Llorenc Serra Ferrer said he did not want either player.
Tardelli, who scored for Sao Paulo in their victory over Atletico Paranaense in the final of the Libertadores Cup in July, has been sidelined by the club for indiscipline and has not played for close to two months.
Betis, who are bottom of the Primera Liga with 11 points from 14 games, are reported to have an option to buy the player at the end of the season.
