Morocco axe French coach Troussier

Troussier leaves his Moroccan post after just two months in the job

RABAT, Morocco -- Philippe Troussier has been sacked as coach of Morocco, just two months after being appointed.

Troussier was named coach on October 29 to replace Badou Zaki, who resigned after Morocco failed to qualify for the 2006 World Cup finals in Germany.

"We have deeply diverging views and cannot continue this way so we put an end to the deal amicably," said a Moroccan Football Federation spokesman.

Troussier, 50, had signed a five-year contract that would have taken him through to the 2010 World Cup finals in South Africa.

He had been due to hold a news conference two days ago to name his squad for the African Nations Cup in Egypt starting on January 20 but failed to show up.

Mohammed Fakhir, the coach of champions FAR Rabat, is tipped to take over.

Troussier has had spells in charge of South Africa, Nigeria, Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso, Qatar and Japan, whom he guided to the second round of the 2002 World Cup.

He took over at French club Marseille last November but lost his job at the end of the season after the club just missed out on a UEFA Cup place.
