(CNN) -- More business people around the globe are freeing themselves up from the shackles of dialup and wired Internet access.

Wi-Fi or wireless-enabled computers. are now connecting up to the Internet from thousands of locations around the globe.

Many airport terminals and business lounges, as well as hotels, convention centres, coffee shops and restaurants have wireless hotspots.

A number of Web sites show where these wireless hotspots exist around the globe, here is a selection of Web sites that list them:

Wi-Fi -- Wireless Fidelity -- is now an integral part of new laptop computers, although older laptops still require wireless access cards, which can be purchased from many computer stores.

However, once you step outside a designated wireless "hotspots" the broadband tap is cut off.

You can now purchase Wi-Fi seekers. These gadgets locate hotspots and come equipped with a signal-strength indicator.

This shows the strength of the network signal before you turn up your laptop -- the gadget is small enough to fit on a key-chain.

The established charging model is for venues to bill wireless users for the time they are use the Internet, though the concept of "freespots" is evolving.

This is where venues make more money by attracting more users to their venues because they provide free wireless Internet access.
