Certain airlines ought to review their policy on upgrading passengers. When I pay for a business or first class ticket not only do I expect the best the airline can offer, but I also expect the passengers to behave accordingly. Imagine having a group of upgraded rowdy passengers enjoying free alcohol whilst you are trying to sleep, since you have to go straight to work upon arrival. Aordin Nemel, Melbourne, Australia

As a new father I thought traveling overseas for business and away from my family would be unbearable. Technology such as a webcam on MSN Messenger and internet phone such as Skype have really made it much more tolerable. I may not get to hold my son but I still feel connected to him and my wife. Aaron Olmsted, Salt Lake City, Utah

I travel internationally with my husband and children frequently. The airline food we receive ranges from poor to inedible. All the American airlines serve unacceptably bad food. Singapore airlines once had an excellent standard of food, but that is no longer the case. Food at airports is overpriced and average. Actually the whole scene is a disgrace. Susan Farrah Lutz, Würzburg, Germany

I think for the most part, meals served on airplanes (even in business class) are remarkably bad, and as Woody Allen once said: "such small portions." In-flight food used to be much better. Airport and hotel food varies tremendously from place to place. But all three (airport, airplane and hotel) share a common denominator -- high fat content. It is hard to eat healthfully when traveling. Jennifer Brule, Zurich, Switzerland

I live and work between Singapore, Paris and Vienna, which means 150 flights per year, and yet the most annoying thing is the traffic jams, especially in Paris. The airplane is the only place where I have time to read a newspaper, a magazine or a good book. Bruno Serrien, Singapore

When I travel the wines served in the plane, the house wine in hotels or the wine of the day of many restaurants around -- it is disastrous and not worth my money. Duty free shopping has a remarkable range of single malts, yet their wine selection is a mix of the worst vintages that nobody wants combined with storing conditions that almost ensure that you bring vinegar back. Anthony, Bangalore, India

If I have to go to such an extent to eat at a restaurant that wants my business, I eat somewhere else or at such a time where it is not so busy...when the food preparation is not so rushed, the restaurant is more peaceful and hopefully the food is prepared with more care. Gordon McPherson, Ottawa, Canada

Some of the airlines have the tendency of dishing out a no choice menu especially to the economy class and simply tell you: "Sir, sorry, the one you are asking for is finished." That is nasty, so we eat what is given to us. If you land at an airport on an early morning flight you cannot find a cafe open to wake you up, such as Moscow. Ramesh Aseema, India

Regardless of where you are staying, or even if it is your hometown, talk to a concierge at a leading hotel and tip him or her to get you a table. Kendrick Bales, New York

After more than 30 years of traveling in 30 countries in capital cities and remote locations, everything that could happen it has happened to me. I have been assaulted by Colombian guerrillas. I have been stranded several days by the "piqueteros" in northern Argentina. One day I was riding a cargo train in the Andes mountains with hens and roasters and iced urine on the toilet floor. The next day I was "forced" to fly in the First Class cabin of a Boeing 777 to Dallas. This included me taking a shower in the first class lounge -- I could write a book about my experiences "on the road." Pablo Jimenez, Mexico City, Mexico
