I believe mobile phones have no place on an airline, train, or for use by drivers in moving cars -- they are a nuisance! How did people survive without them 20 years ago? Clarence Moore, Seoul, South Korea

I think I would rather have smoking on flights than to have to listen for five hours to 100 people talking on their cell phones. I find flights excellent for composing thoughts prior to meetings or just plain escaping from my own cell phone leash. Maybe the perfect compromise would be to provide some sort of wireless/cellular Internet access for those needing to stay in touch. This would certainly be a quieter solution. Joy, Bocas del Toro, Panama

The presence of cell phones on flights is a very important security item. Camera phones should be used immediately to frame terrorists or possible passengers causing problems. There should be a national phone number cell phone owners could use to call the authorities while traveling to make immediate exposure to travel events caused by terrorists or suspect actions. The issue of bombs on planes detonated by cell phones is an inspection issue for the authorities and they need to clean up their house to catch bombs before they are planted on jets. Terry Lorenz, Fort Collins, Colorado

Honestly it would be great to use your mobile phone during a flight specifically during trans-Atlantic flights. One can get business done and not waste all time. Hiram, Tijuana, Mexico

When you go to places where the locals do not speak English, and where the majority of people do not have a worldly outlook -- such as Taiwan, do not bother to go to local banks to exchange money go straight to an American chain bank. Trust me it will save you a lot of trouble. Tiffany Facchin, Strasbourg, France

I believe that mobile phone use in airlines would be more helpful and effective for each business traveler. That way each one of us would be able to make business decisions in-flight quickly. Masud Selim, Dhaka, Bangladesh

I can see the problem of mobile phones in-flight. When you land and you are in the bus from the aircraft to the terminal your head can hurt with the number of people receiving calls or talking on telephones. Imagine this happening on a plane. Imagine every few minutes your neighbor receiving a call. Imagine the number of ring tones. Hagop, Brussels, Belgium

Jean-Paul Sartre said hell is being trapped forever in a room with your friends, but in-flight mobile phone use would make him say: "hell is being trapped in an airplane with someone chattering on his mobile." Cellular phones are a wonderful convenience, but I do not want to hear about Aunt Grace's gout or your misinterpretation of office politics for the duration of a flight. If you want to use your mobile phone in-flight then go out on the wing. Michael Dimond, Portland, Oregon

Allow the airlines to tax the usage of phones to the point that only emergency usage would be sensible. T J Shaffer, St Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands

Dubai, makes most hospitality in the world look like it needs a training course. It is a spectacular place. Business is booming, the place is a paradise and the people, well go see for yourself. CNN does a great job of making most short-sighted Americans believe that the Middle East is a war zone -- it is not. It is like saying, 'There is a conflict in Mexico, so I am staying well away from the USA'. Open your eyes to the world America, you will be surprised what you see. James Magee, London, UK

I believe mobile phones are a part of life now, being up in the air for 8-12 hours at times, without connectivity, is a torture. Anamitra Roy, Singapore

After recent trips to Indonesia, where I was fleeced by a grinning Garuda Airlines manager and to Saudi Arabia where it seems that immigration people simply are not happy unless they are wasting everyone's time, I only have one thing to say: Forget the stress and hassles of travelling, this year I'm staying home! Stephen Czupryna, Strazeele, France

With mobile phone use in-flight there will not be one quite moment on the plane, nor privacy! The space will be full of ring-tones and shouting. Until now while on the plane it has been a little bit different, it feels like a special and isolated space. Giora Bilu, Petah Tikva, Israel

Flying is one of the few places where people still have freedom from having to put up with others speaking loudly and using their phones at inconvenient times. At this point everyone knows that when you are flying you cannot be contacted -- let us keep it like that. Brian Marshall, Durban, South Africa

The in-flight space is the only place left where you do not have to be constantly exposed to never-ending telephone conversations via mobile phones. If you can use phones in-flight this will be a disaster and will certainly lead to quarrels and disputes, if not worse, during flights. Steven Ransom, Amsterdam, the Netherlands
