CNN.com asked readers how they will remember 2005. Here are a few of their responses, some of which have been edited: The thing I will remember the most will be how after the hurricanes hit, we the nation, and even the world, contributed so much out of what we did not have. I heard stories of Pakistani and Afghan people donating! Just last week a 5-year-old boy donated time and money so people in Louisiana and Texas could have a Christmas! I will call 2005 a huge success with many casualties and losses, but wonderful none the less! It was a year of tragedies all over the world. Many people suffered greatly. Sad times, but also times when everyone pulled together to get through, over and around the tragedies. It is a year I would like to put behind me, but unfortunately, I feel the coming year will not be any easier. We have quite a bit of remembering as a nation and world of who we are, why we are here and where we are going. The year 2005 was a very tough year for our family. In January, our uncle passed away suddenly. In February, our aunt passed away from a long-term illness. Then tragically, in July, my sister died from a blood clot after having a simple surgery. In September, my stepfather died of cancer and in November my dearly loved father passed away, with me by his side. Along with many family members, our pet Keltie of 13 years died of a seizure in my arms on the way to the vet in late September. One thing I am sure of: 2006 can't possibly be much worse. Together as a family, we have survived, and through all these experiences it certainly has made us appreciate life much more. Since George W. Bush has been in office, each year has been worse than the last one. Now I know why we have term limits. I will remember 2005 as the year of natural and man-made disasters -- tsunamis, earthquakes, hurricanes and war. I will also remember it as watching people come together to help one another -- governments messing things up sometimes, and people going out of their way to clean it up.
