Here is a sampling from the responses, some of which have been edited: Right now Hurricane Dennis approaches as our family huddles in our boarded Paradise home. Winds are blowing, the palm trees are bending. Yet through it all, at least for now there is a calm. I'm reminded of the important things as I hear my 20-month-old son playing a song on his keyboard, and my wonderful wife has just brought a dinner plate in ... it is a beautiful life, even in the midst of incredible power and destruction. Frank Crockett Ewing; Key West, Florida Tonight we had one of the first outer bands of storms from Dennis come through, extremely windy and rainy. I really freaked out, brought back August 13, 2004, immediately. Every day since Hurricane Charley I have relived the moment our furniture blew out of the house and can't believe we weren't hurt or killed. Someone was watching over my husband and me. So right now I'm praying for the best and keep telling myself we won't take a direct hit like that again! Donna Moder; Punta Gorda, Florida My first childhood memory is going through Hurricane Donna in September 1960 (a CAT4 hurricane), and I was 6 years old. We lived on Fort Myers Beach, Florida, so we went inland to Arcadia, Florida and stayed in a motel. The entire roof blew off of the motel, except the manager's living area. Our family huddled down in a corner of our bedroom. Then when the eye of the storm passed over us, everyone in the motel rushed to the manager's area. There was over 100 of us in his apartment. I have always lived in Florida, but to this day, if a hurricane comes close ... I have to stay somewhere where there is a second floor above me, as my only major fear is the roof coming off.
