LAGOS, Nigeria (CNN) -- Six employees of a Shell contractor were kidnapped Wednesday in southern Nigeria, a spokesman for Shell in London said.

The two Germans and four Nigerians were abducted early in the morning by youths who identified themselves as members of the Iduwini National Movement for Peace and Development, the spokesman said.

The spokesman added that the group is demanding better social services, specifically clean water, improved roads, clinics and schools.

The state government of Bayelsa was working with the contractor, Bilfinger-Berger, to free the six employees, said Lisa Gilvert, a press officer for Shell in London.
