Chinese hotel fire kills 30
BEIJING, China (CNN) -- A hotel fire in southern China has killed 30 people and injured 15, the official Xinhua News Agency reports.
The fire began about noon Friday (0400 GMT) in Shantou, a city in Guangdong province, and engulfed the top floors of the four-story building.
It was unclear how many people were in the hotel when the fire began.
The cause is being investigated.
The blaze is the latest in at least a dozen fires in the province, which have prompted officials to step up their building inspections.
