Pakistan to expel outside studentsBy Journalist Kasra Naji ![]() Musharraf says he is serious about cracking down on Islamic militancy. YOUR E-MAIL ALERTSRAWALPINDI, Pakistan (CNN) -- Pakistan's President Gen. Pervez Musharraf says as part of his crackdown on Islamic extremism in religious schools, or madrasas, foreign students will be thrown out of the country. "Madrasa Ordinance will require all foreigners, even those with dual nationality, to be removed," he said during a two-hour question-and-answer session with international journalists in Rawalpindi. He said the ordinance, which will be issued in a few days, will also require all madrasas to be registered by the end of the year. "Mosques would not be allowed to be used for extremism or incitement to hatred," he said. Musharraf has come under international spotlight in recent weeks after it emerged that at least two of the London bombers had visited Pakistan in recent months and may have stayed at a madrasa in the country. There have been calls on Pakistan to clean out the madrasas that allegedly have become the breeding ground for Islamic militancy. Some 600 people have been arrested in Pakistan since the crackdown on Islamic militancy began some 10 days ago, officials said. Musharraf told international journalists that he is very serious about continuing the crackdown on Islamic militancy. But he said he would proceed with "lots of prudence and understanding."
