RELATEDON CNNI TVHiroshima Remembered: 2300 GMT Friday 0800 Saturday Tokyo YOUR E-MAIL ALERTS(CNN) -- On August 6, 1945, the U.S. B-29 bomber Enola Gay released its payload -- an atomic bomb named "Little Boy" over the Japanese city of Hiroshima. The attack -- an act that ushered in the nuclear age but also helped end World War II -- is estimated to have killed about 140,000 of Hiroshima's 350,000 population. Hiroshima, situated 426 miles (686 kilometers) southwest of Tokyo, was charred and leveled beyond recognition. This year, CNN marks the event 60 years later with an hour-long special report, "Remembering Hiroshima," to air this Saturday at 7 a.m. HKT, 7 p.m. ET. Anchored live by Andrew Stevens from CNN's Asian production center in Hong Kong, "Remembering Hiroshima" will take viewers to the site of this year's memorial. As many as 40,000 people are expected to attend the memorial, including Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi, Minister of Foreign Affairs Nobutaka Machimura and Hiroshima's Mayor Tadatoshi Akiba.
