Quake rattles Papua New Guinea
YOUR E-MAIL ALERTS(CNN) -- A major earthquake has rocked Papua New Guinea, registering a magnitude 7.3, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. There were no immediate reports of injuries or damage from Friday evening's quake, which struck the New Ireland region of Papua New Guinea. The quake struck at 5:27 p.m. (3:27 a.m. EDT) and was located 25 miles (40 kilometers) east-southeast of Taron or 540 miles northeast of the capital, Port Moresby. The epicenter was 60 miles (96 km) underground. The Japan Meteorological Agency said on its Web site there was no danger of a tsunami from the earthquake.
