Tories right option, says Thatcher
LONDON, England (CNN) -- The Conservative Party is still the right option for Britain, Baroness Thatcher insisted in a rare interview screened on CNN.
In a rare public appearance, the Conservative ex-premier -- whose term in office Tony Blair still has to beat -- said she hoped the results were better than predicted for the party.
She told CNN affiliate ITN: "I am Conservative. I believe Conservative is right for the country.
"It's done a great deal for the country and I hope that we shall come up very well as a result of what's gone on in this election."
Lady Thatcher continued: "My experience of the Labour Party is they have often done quite a lot more of what we would have done than any previous other Labour Party."
Asked if Tony Blair's government was Thatcherite, she replied: "There might have been a tincture of it but that is all.
"He has a long way to come to be purely Thatcherite."
Asked whether things were looking better for the Tories than were anticipated, Lady Thatcher replied: "They are not looking good enough for the Conservatives. "I hope that they will look better as a result of our record and what we have done for this country."
