Family: Suspect was 'brainwashed'
LONDON, England (CNN) -- The family of a man who police believe blew himself up on a London subway train last week said they knew him as "kind and caring" and they are grieving the fact he had been "brainwashed." The family of Mohammad Sedique Khan issued the statement through West Yorkshire police. Khan, 30, is believed to be responsible for the subway blast near Edgware Road. He was from Dewsbury, West Yorkshire. "The Khan family would like to sincerely express their deepest and heartfelt sympathies to all the innocent victims and their families and friends affected by this horrific and evil act," the statement says. "We are devastated that our son may have been brainwashed into carrying out such an atrocity, since we know him as a kind and caring member of our family. "We urge people with the tiniest bit of information to come forward in order to expose these terror networks which target and groom our sons to carry out such evils." The family said it would have no further comment. The statement is the second issued by the family of one of the four London bombing suspects. On Friday, the family of Hasib Mir Hussain said they had "no knowledge of his activities" and if they had, "we would have done everything in our power to stop him." Authorities have said they believe Hussain, 18, of Leeds was the one who detonated the bomb aboard the double-decker bus nearly an hour after three near-simultaneous explosions on London's Underground trains.
