Nine in UK anti-terror quiz
SPECIAL REPORTYOUR E-MAIL ALERTSLONDON, England (CNN) -- British anti-terror police were continuing to question nine men Monday in an investigation into suspected international terrorism in the UK. A tenth man held after a series of raids around the country early on Saturday has been released without charge. Security sources told the UK Press Association the arrests were regarded as "significant." Newspaper reports said the detentions related to an alleged bomb plot in Britain. Three men were arrested in Croydon, south London, four in Wolverhampton and three in Derby in the English Midlands at about 4 a.m. Saturday. The man who has been released was one of those arrested in Derby. Police executed warrants at three locations, making the arrests "in connection with an ongoing investigation into suspected international terrorism in the United Kingdom" and are conducting searches at the places. However, the investigation that led to the arrests "is separate from the ongoing inquiries into the events in London," referring to the July bombings there. The ten are being held "on suspicion of the commission, preparation or instigation of acts of terrorism under the Terrorism Act 2000." "The arrests were made as the result of an intelligence led investigation involving police and the Security Service." Police say "it is likely that inquiries will continue for some time. The men arrested have been taken to police stations in the West Midlands, Derbyshire and in central London to be interviewed by detectives from the Anti-Terrorist Branch."
