BERLIN, Germany (CNN) -- Ten people were killed Friday in a fire that swept through mobile homes comprising a temporary shelter for the homeless in the German town of Halberstadt, police said.

A total of 15 people were being sheltered at the center, which provides meals and beds for the homeless. The other five were injured in the blaze, some seriously, police said.

The fire broke out about 5:30 a.m. at the center, which is comprised of 20 mobile homes.

Although the mobile homes were set close together, police said they consider the blaze suspicious because all 20 caught on fire. The cause remained under investigation.

Halberstadt is about 170 kilometers (106 miles) southwest of Berlin.
