Israel says tank fired in response to mortar attack
GAZA CITY (CNN) -- Seven Palestinians were killed by Israeli tank fire in the northern Gaza town of Beit Lahiya Tuesday morning, Palestinian medical officials said.
Israeli military sources said the tank fired in response to a Palestinian mortar attack that wounded an Israeli civilian in the Erez Industrial area. The Israeli sources also said a Palestinian Qassam rocket was launched toward the city of Sderot.
The Israeli sources said the tank rounds were fired at an open area, toward a group of people identified as Palestinian militants.
Palestinian medical sources said that in addition to the seven dead, 20 Palestinians were wounded by the tank fire.
