State Department agent among 4 U.S. dead
YOUR E-MAIL ALERTSBAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- A U.S. State Department employee and three employees of a security contractor were killed Monday in northern Iraq when their vehicle was hit by a suicide car bomber, a U.S. official in Baghdad said Tuesday. Two others in the convoy were wounded. The State Deptartment employee was working as a diplomatic security agent for the U.S. Regional Embassy Office in Mosul and was traveling with employees of North Carolina-based Blackwater Security Consulting USA. All four were American citizens. This is the third hostile death of a State Department employee in Iraq since sovereignty was passed in June of 2004. Meanwhile, a British armored vehicle escorted by a tank crashed into a detention center Monday in Basra and rescued two undercover troops held by police, an Iraqi Interior Ministry official told CNN.
