BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- A French national working for an engineering firm working on sewage projects in the Iraqi capital was kidnapped by gunmen Monday, police said. The man is believed to be an engineer. The abduction took place around 9:20 a.m. (1:20 a.m. ET) in the upscale Mansur district of western Baghdad. According to police, witnesses said gunmen pulled the man from a vehicle in front of his residence. Documents found in the car indicated he was a French citizen. An official reached at the French embassy in Baghdad said they had heard the reports, but could not immediately confirm the information.
