(CNN) -- Frank Purcell says he hopes to fit more workouts into his life as a Washington lobbyist. He joined the "New You Resolution" program with ambitious goals: lose 75 pounds; do a cardio workout three to five days a week; lower total cholesterol from 229 to less than 200. The bow tie-wearing father joined New You to achieve these goals in the midst of a very busy schedule. Outside of work he is raising two children and pursuing a master's degree. Over the course of the two months of the New You program, Purcell brought his weight down from 259 pounds to 236 pounds. Although that is far short of his goal of losing 75 pounds, Purcell realizes it is decent progress given the short time frame. "If I'm gonna get to 184 pounds, that's gonna take me a while, unless I lop off my left leg," he said. The key has been doing more regular cardio workouts, like running and biking, and tweaking his diet to include less fat and fewer sweets. Now, nine months after his journey began, Purcell comes back in for a check-up. Follow his progress on The Buddy Blog and on American Morning, Monday through Friday, 6-10 a.m. ET. ![]() Purcell celebrated his 40th birthday with a calorie-laden carrot cake but has still managed to lose 27 pounds.
