(CNN) -- High gas prices and general pocketbook angst will certainly be a factor when voters cast their ballots on Election Day, analysts predict. We asked CNN.com readers to send in their thoughts on the economy and how the issue will affect their vote this November. (Share your comments.) Here is a selection of responses, some of which have been edited: The economy is NOT in good shape thanks to the GOP. The deficit is appalling. Government spending is out of control, which makes tax cuts ridiculous. Pet projects sneak their way into bills being voted on. Minimum wage is a disgrace and playing games with the minimum wage bill was despicable. Congress grants themselves a raise but ignores the needs of the working poor. Trade agreements with foreign countries such as Mexico and China are not to our benefit. American jobs are being outsourced. Nothing is being done to reduce our dependence on foreign oil. Crime statistics are up in every state. I will not be voting for the incompetent leadership of the GOP. The economy is the most important issue. The stranglehold big business has on our government must be broken. The United States must embark on a path toward catching up with the other advanced western civilizations when it comes to workers rights and benefits. Big corporations are the mortal enemies of the American working and middle class - far more so than foreign terrorists. They are currently waging and winning a war against the middle class. We have to reverse this and destroy their power and influence. Unions must be restored, the outsourcing of jobs should be banned, immigration should be ended, and laws should be passed to guarantee American workers the same rights and benefits as European workers. I am voting Democratic because the Republicans have done nothing but sell legislation. Tom DeLay is the standard not the exception. Anyone who is richer after taking office than he was before should be investigated. I think that the three branches of government should not be allowed to participate in the stock market or futures market because they are the ultimate insider traders as they pass or veto legislation that affects business. The minimum wage should be significantly raised and we should have national health care like other developed nations. The economy continues to be strong. As much as it hurts the liberal press to report it, things are going in a positive direction. Unemployment is low -- by historical numbers. Job growth is steady. Guess the tax cuts DO work. While the news media announces how stable our economy is, I watch more and more well-paying jobs moving out of this country. We struggle with higher prices on just about every essential while watching our wages stagnate, or worse yet, lose our jobs as they migrate overseas. My hope for a better economic future for my young adult children has faded over the past several years. ... There is no leadership in America. Once proud to be a Republican, today I refuse to align with any political sect. I am a Citizen. Yes, I will vote, but not one [vote] will be cast for any incumbent. I won't listen to the Democrats 'gloom and doom' on the economy. The economy has done great, especially given all that has happened in this country during the past five years. While I'm not big on paying $3.00/gallon for gas, it's not a big issue. ... The Democrats will try to make a big deal out of it, but if you can't budget your money better, you have bigger problems than that. SPECIAL REPORT
