Airport fracas: Snoop Dogg bailed
Snoop Dogg is one of rap music's biggest stars. YOUR E-MAIL ALERTSLONDON, England (CNN) -- American rapper Snoop Dogg and several members of his entourage were detained by police at London's Heathrow Airport after a skirmish that left seven police officers with minor injuries, a police source told CNN. According to Scotland Yard, police responded to a disturbance on around 6 p.m. Wednesday (1700 GMT) at a business lounge in the airport's Terminal 1. Scotland Yard did not release the names of those arrested. But when asked by CNN if Snoop Dogg was still in custody, a police official said late Thursday that he had been released on bail until mid-May. A statement from Scotland Yard said: "The other men will be dealt with in the same way through the evening and will return on the same date in mid-May." Apparently Snoop Dogg, 34, -- whose real name is Calvin Broadus -- and his crew were told by the airline they would not be permitted to board their flight to Johannesburg, South Africa. As police tried to direct the group to baggage reclaim, they became "abusive and pushed officers," according to Scotland Yard. The seven police officers received minor injuries, including cuts and bruises, and one suffered a fractured hand. Six men, all in their 30s, were detained; five face charges of brawling and one -- age 39 -- faces a charge of violent disorder. All were taken to a West London police station. Snoop Dogg was scheduled to perform at a Thursday concert in Johannesburg, celebrating South Africa's "Freedom Day," marking Nelson Mandela's release from prison. According to Computicket, the South African agency handling the concert, Snoop Dogg canceled his appearance and the agency will issue refunds. Snoop Dogg was a headlining act, along with Pharrell Williams, Sean Paul and rising South African acts Freshly Ground and Zola. Organizers said Snoop was expected to keep his South African tour dates for Cape Town on Saturday and in Durban on Monday. CNN's Alphonso Marsh in Johannesburg and Andrew Carey in London contributed to this report.
