HONG KONG, China (CNN) -- The following are recent snapshots of successful books and authors in China, as well as Chinese works on the mainland and abroad.

Sales in China

Some top-selling books in China. The list is current as of March 28, 2006:

  • "Brother Part Two," by Yu Hua. Story of two brothers set in contemporary China.
  • "The Human Body Handbook"
  • "Lotus Flower"
  • "Deception Point," by Dan Brown
  • "Brother Part One," by Yu Hua. Story of two brothers set during the cultural revolution.
  • "Plus and minus" (a game strategy book), by Wu Jia Chang
  • "Running With Scissors: A memoir," by Augusten Burrows. (Chinese title: "Take the scissors to run")

    Chinese authors in China

    Book sales in China increased 7.34 percent in 2004-2005. Here's a look at top Chinese authors on the mainland:

  • Yang Hongying, author of "A Boy's Diary," "A Girl's Diary." Yang is a children's book author who had 57 books published in 2005.
  • Guo Jingming, author of "City of Fantasy."
  • Wang Zhongqiu, author of "Detail is the Key to Success."
  • Jiang Rong, author of "Wolf Totem."
  • Cheng Junyi, author of "Distilling Three Kingdoms."
  • Lu Qin, author of "Tell Your Child: You are Great."

    Popular Chinese authors in the West, and some of their notable works:

  • Jung Chang, "Wild Swans: Three Daughters of China." The book has sold 30 million copies worldwide.
