![]() The fearsome Valuev is the first ever Russian world heavyweight champion MOSCOW, Russia -- Russia's Nikolai Valuev, known as the "beast from the east" for his size and menacing appearance, will defend his WBA heavyweight title against American Owen Beck in April in Germany. The 32-year-old became the first Russian to win the world title when he scored a controversial decision over holder John Ruiz in Berlin last month. "Although Nikolai has yet to sign a contract to fight Beck, everything has been agreed," said spokesman Konstantin Osipov. "We expect both sides to sign a formal contract within a week and the fight will be held on April 1 in Hamburg." Valuev has said he hopes to unify the heavyweight title by adding the WBC and IBF belts to his WBA crown. The Germany-based Russian, who is 2.13 meters tall and weighs 147kg said that he also wants to fight Ukraine's Vladimir Klitschko, the younger brother of former WBC champion Vitali Klitschko.
