Europe/Asia Tours reach compromise

LONDON, England -- The Indonesian Open, Singapore Masters and TCL Classic in China will go ahead as jointly sanctioned events after the European Tour and Asian Tour reached an amicable agreement.

The staging of the March 2-5 Indonesian Open had been in doubt with the inaugural Amby Valley Masters in Mumbai, India, earmarked for the same week.

However, organisers of the Amby Valley Masters have postponed their event until May 11-14 "in the interest of Asian golf".

A spokesman confirmed: "The Indonesia Open will be played from March 2-5 while the Singapore Masters will be held from March 9-12."

Last week, Asian Tour chief executive Louis Martin labelled as an insult a move by the European Tour to stage the Indonesian Open and Singapore Masters in Asia without the involvement of the host circuit.

Martin felt a near 10-year co-sanctioning agreement between the two tours would be severely damaged unless a compromise was reached.

European Tour executive director George O'Grady said: "We would like to thank the Asian Tour for their co-operation in agreeing to move the Amby Valley Masters in India and ensuring that the events in Indonesia, Singapore and China are played to the mutual satisfaction of both Tours.

"We have strong relationships with the government of Indonesia and also the Singapore Masters, a well established event which has produced an Indian winner in Arjun Atwal and the first Chinese champion in Lian-Wei Zhang."

The Indonesia Open will be played at Emeralda Golf & Country Club in Jakarta while the Singapore Masters will take place at Laguna National Golf & Country Club.

The TCL Classic will be staged at Yalong Bay Country Club on Hainan Island, China, from March 16 to 19.
