LONDON, England (Reuters) -- Tongan international winger Epi Taione was banned for 18 weeks on Monday after admitting biting Munster forward Denis Leamy in a Heineken Cup match last month. The ban ends Sale player Taione's season as the Heineken Cup final is on May 20 and the English Premiership final on May 27. Taione was cited after the Pool One match in Ireland on January 21, won 31-9 by Munster, and appeared before an independent disciplinary hearing in London on Monday. "The hearing heard that there were no aggravating factors and there were various compelling mitigating factors," Heineken Cup organizers said in a statement. "It therefore determined that the appropriate sanction was a period of 18 weeks, ending on Sunday, 11 June inclusive."
