Cancellara claims Catalonia opener
 Cancellara celebrates his return to action with victory in the first stage. SALOU, Spain -- Fabian Cancellara returned to racing after a month-long absence with a surprise win in stage one of the Tour of Catalonia on Monday. The CSC rider was three seconds quicker than Russian Vladimir Karpets, Slovenian Janez Brajkovic and South Africa's Robert Hunter, over the 12.6km time trial around the coastal town of Salou. "I haven't raced since winning Paris-Roubaix in April and I haven't trained hard, so winning here too was not what I expected," said Cancellara. "But I have always done well in this type of event." the 2004 Tour de France prologue victor added. Cancellara, whose team mate Ivan Basso is leading the Giro d'Italia, said he had no intention of imitating the Italian and defending his number one spot. "This is a great victory for me, but I don't plan to have the team work to keep me in first place in the days to come." "My real objective from here on is to work for Ivan in the Tour de France in July. This result is added motivation for me in that objective, but I have to be realistic." The Tour of Catalonia ends on Sunday May 21 in Barcelona.
