Jones will run in Europe this year
![]() Jones' recent 100m time of 11.06 in Mexico was the third fastest this year. RALEIGH, North Carolina -- Triple Olympic gold medallist Marion Jones will compete in Europe this year after a successful 100 meters in Mexico last weekend, her manager has revealed. "Marion has been accepted and will run in Hengelo (May 28) and in the Golden League meeting in Brussels (August 25 ), " said manager Charles Wells. "We are also holding discussions with Ostrava (May 30), Athens (July 3) and the Golden League meet in Paris (July 8)," Wells added. Several major European promoters decided last year not to invite Jones and former partner Tim Montgomery to meetings because of their links to the BALCO doping scandal. Montgomery has since been banned from the sport for two years and stripped of his 2002 100 meters world record by the Court of Arbitration for Sport. Jones has never been charged with a doping offence and has never failed a doping test although she has been under scrutiny by the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA). She has repeatedly denied using performance-enhancing drugs. She clocked 11.06 seconds for 100 meters near Veracruz, Mexico, last Saturday in her first race in 11 months. The time, set at altitude, is the third fastest of the season. Although Jones has no U.S. meetings on her schedule, she will compete in the 100 and 200 meters at the U.S. championships in Indianapolis on June 22-25 . The championships are the U.S. qualifier for the World Cup team event in Athens in September and Wells said Jones would compete in Greece if she qualifies. The winner of five Olympic medals at the 2000 Sydney Games, Jones failed to win a medal at the 2004 Olympics in Athens. She has run poorly since having a child with Montgomery in 2003 and coming under scrutiny by USADA for links to the California laboratory BALCO. Jones and Montgomery separated last year and Montgomery was banned in December by CAS. The court made its ruling on the basis of evidence accepted from USADA that he had taken banned substances provided byBALCO. Montgomery, who never failed a doping test, has denied taking steroids. He announced his retirement in December but has continued to fight the ban.
