Capirossi is OK to leave hospital
![]() Capirossi is attended to after his spectacular crash on Sunday. MADRID, Spain -- MotoGP rider Loris Capirossi has been cleared to leave hospital after being involved in a crash at the Catalan Grand Prix on Sunday. But his Italian compatriot Marco Melandri, who fell in the same incident, will remain under observation a further 24 hours. Six riders came down in the crash at the first bend, with Capirossi, Melandri and Spaniard Sete Gibernau all missing the re-started race won by Valentino Rossi. Capirossi suffered bruising to the chest and abdomen and erosion burns, although scans showed no broken bones. "He could be fit for next weekend's Dutch MotoGP," said a Ducati spokesman. Honda's Melandri was diagnosed with concussion, a badly strained neck and a damaged collarbone. Ducati's Gibernau broke a collarbone and suffered concussion in the crash and will need an operation. American Nicky Hayden leads the championship ahead of second-placed Capirossi and third-placed Rossi. Melandri is fourth and Gibernau 11th after seven races.
