Kubica quickest in Canada practice
![]() Kubica was the man to beat in Friday's practice session in Montreal. MONTREAL, Canada -- Robert Kubica added to his pace-setting time earlier on Friday by going quickest in the second free practice session for the Canadian Grand Prix. The 21-year-old Pole topped the Montreal session in one minute 19.96 in his BMW Sauber -- although that was more than half a second slower than the time he posted in the cooler morning session. World champion Fernando Alonso was second fastest for Renault, just over one-tenth of a second slower, with Austrian test driver Alex Wurz third for Williams. Behind them, Finn Kimi Raikkonen showed flashes of promise with the fourth quickest time for McLaren and British tester Anthony Davidson was fifth for Honda. The final chicane continued to cause problems for the drivers, despite the track temperature being five degrees higher than in the opening session. Fourteen drivers missed their braking point and chose to straight-line the corner, rather than risk hitting "champions wall" as the barrier on the outside of the corner became known in 1999 after claiming the races of Michael Schumacher, Jacques Villeneuve and Damon Hill. Schumacher in his Ferrari and Colombian Juan Pablo Montoya in a McLaren ended up well back in 15th and 17th place respectively. Both went off the track at the first corner on their next laps, although neither suffered any damage to their cars. Misfortune befell Italian Jarno Trulli though, when his Toyota slowed suddenly.
