Flipkens launches Belgium's bid
![]() Flipkens fills the gap left by 'worn-out' Henin-Hardenne. OSTEND, Belgium -- Justine Henin-Hardenne's replacement Kirsten Flipkens will open Belgium's bid to reach the Fed Cup final against American Jill Craybas in Ostend on Saturday. Friday's semifinal draw also paired world number two and U.S. Open champion Kim Clijsters with United States' Jamea Jackson. The return singles will take place on Sunday, along with the doubles. Belgians Caroline Maes and Leslie Butkiewicz will take on Vania King and Mashona Washington. Belgium beat champions Russia 3-2 in the opening round in April, albeit with both Clijsters and Henin-Hardenne. The latter withdraw on Wednesday, saying she was too worn out to compete after losing in the Wimbledon final. Anabel Medina Garrigues will be first up for Spain in their semifinal against Italy when she meets Flavia Pennetta in the opening singles match in Zaragoza on Saturday. Spain's Lourdes Dominguez-Lino faces Francesca Schiavone, who beat world number one Amelie Mauresmo in April as Italy overcame France 4-1 in the opening round. The return singles will take place on Sunday, along with the doubles rubber which is scheduled to pitch the Spanish pair of Virginia Ruano Pascual and Maria Sanchez Lorenzo against Romina Oprandi and Mara Santangelo. Five-times Fed Cup winners Spain beat Austria 5-0 in their opening round to reach the semifinals for the third year running.
