Quinziato bursts clear for victory
![]() Quinziato broke away on his own two kilometers from the finish. AMSTERDAM, Netherlands -- Italian Manuel Quinziato won stage two of the Benelux Tour from 's Hertogenbosch to Sittard-Geleen on Friday with a late attack that surprised the sprinters. The Liquigas rider jumped away alone two kilometers from the finish of the 194-km stage and held off the chasing peloton. Quinziato finished four seconds ahead of Italy's Simone Cadamuro and Belgium's Wouter Weylandt. Belgium's Tom Boonen did not contest the sprint but retained the overall race lead. Quinziato trailed by a second after moving up to second. "I've been riding well since June and was well placed in stages of the Tour de France and the Tour of Denmark but never managed to win," Quinziato said. "I really needed a win to boost my confidence and now I've got it. Now I hope I can keep on winning. "I noticed that many of the riders were tired on the second finishing circuit and so I decided to go for it near the finish. "I tried the same move last year, going at four kilometers from the finish, but I was caught 50 meters from the line. This year I went closer to the finish and got it right." Quinziato said he will be trying to win the overall classification. "I've always raced well in Belgium and Holland and now I want to do well overall," he said. "The final stage in the Ardennes area of Belgium is hilly but I'll be riding to win. I think I've got a chance." Saturday's 185-km third stage is from Beek in the Netherlands to Westmalle in Belgium.
