VIENNA, Austria -- Andy Roddick came back from a set down to beat Richard Gasquet of France 6-7 6-1 6-3 to advance to the quarterfinals of the BA-CA Trophy in Vienna.

Roddick looked annoyed near the end of the first set after having repeated disputes with the umpire about line calls.

But in the second set, the American broke Gasquet's serve immediately and dominated from there.

"I was unlucky in the first set. But I was hitting the balls very well, so that gave me confidence for the rest of the match," Roddick said.

Roddick will face Jurgen Melzer in the quarterfinals. Austria's No.1 needed over two hours to defeat qualifier Lukasz Kubot of Poland 6-4 3-6 6-1 in a scrappy match.

"I have played a lot of matches lately and was very tired after yesterday's Ferrero game, but my positive thinking kept me going," Melzer said.

Second seed David Nalbandian beat Oliver Marach 6-2 6-3 to also reach the last eight. Although Nalbandian saved five break points in the first set and was a break down early in the second, he was never in real trouble against an opponent who only got 43 percent of his first serves in and was broken four times.

The Argentine meets fifth-seeded Fernando Gonzalez in the next round.

There was a surprise was Stanislas Wawrinka ousted eighth-seeded Serb Novak Djokovic 6-3 6-3.

The 21-year-old Swiss held his serve throughout the match, while Djokovic -- who won the Open de Moselle on Sunday -- won only 54 percent of points on his own serve.

Wawrinka will play top seed Ivan Ljubicic of Croatia in the quarterfinals.
