PARIS, France -- Midfielder Thomas Kahlenberg scored one goal and set up another to give AJ Auxerre a 2-1 win over Monaco that lifted them to second in Ligue 1 on Thursday. Marco Di Vaio, who joined Monaco from Valencia during the winter transfer window, opened the scoring on his debut just before the half hour mark. The Burgundy side equalised five minutes later courtesy of a fine volley by France international Peguy Luyindula and Kahlenberg won it in after 57 minutes. The Danish midfielder -- he set up Luyindula with a backheel -- found the target with a fine, curling shot from just inside the box. Italian striker Di Vaio earlier flicked the ball past Auxerre goalkeeper Fabien Cool after collecting a through pass from Czech midfielder Jaroslav Plasil. Auxerre have 35 points from 20 games, 12 points behind leaders Olympique Lyon who celebrated the New Year with a 4-0 away rout of Racing Strasbourg on Wednesday. Monaco remain eighth on 31 points, trailing Auxerre by four points and third-placed Paris St Germain by three. The Parisians, who were playing their first game under new coach Guy Lacombe, beat Sochaux 3-1 at the Parc des Princes on Wednesday.
