SARAJEVO, Bosnia (Reuters) -- Bosnia national coach Blaz Sliskovic will extend his contract for two years to 2008, association (NSBIH) spokeswoman Slavica Pecikoza said on Wednesday. Pecikoza added that NSBIH Secretary General Munib Usanovic signed the contract on Wednesday and Sliskovic was expected to do so on Thursday. "This is just a formality because the executive board had earlier given Sliskovic its backing," Pecikoza said. Sliskovic, who also coaches Bosnian champions Zrinjski Mostar, twice came close to taking Bosnia to their first major tournament, but missed out on Euro 2004 and the 2006 World Cup. The chain-smoking 46-year-old, one of the most talented players in the former Yugoslavia in the 1980s, made his name with hometown club Velez Mostar and also played for Hajduk Split, Olympique Marseille and Pescara. He was sacked as coach of Hajduk last April but the NSBIH allowed him to take on the Zrinjski job in July provided the national team remained his priority. Belgium baptismNew Belgium coach Rene Vandereycken's first game in charge will be a friendly away to Luxembourg on March 1, the country's FA said on Wednesday. Belgium will face their close neighbors at the Stade J Barthel stadium, the FA said in a statement. Vandereycken took over as coach on January 1 following the resignation of Aime Anthuenis, whose squad failed to reach the World Cup finals for the first time since 1978.
