Pires will only get one-year offer
![]() Pires wants a longer contract than Arsenal are prepared to offer him LONDON, England -- Arsenal star Robert Pires could be leaving the club after manager Arsene Wenger rejected his request for a longer-term contract. The 32-year-old midfielder had been seeking more than the one-year contract extension Arsenal have offered him. This is in keeping with the club's policy of not giving long-term deals to players over 30 years of age. However, Wenger has made it clear that hopes of a longer contract will be rebuffed. "I've always said I want Robert to stay for at least another year and I hope he will make that decision sooner rather than later. He's always an important player for us," Wenger said. "He's at an age where he would like three years, If I was in his place, I would as well. He'll get one year. We'll stick to our policy for older players. "We'll offer him a good year and then he has to make the decision whether he wants to stay." Pires has been linked with a summer move to Glasgow Rangers.
