Denilson hits winner in 11 seconds
![]() Denilson once moved to Spain for a world record transfer fee PARIS, France -- Denilson's goal after 11 seconds gave second-placed Girondins Bordeaux a 1-0 win over mid-table Nice in Ligue 1 on Sunday. The Brazilian scored after collecting a pass from the kickoff by defender David Jemmali. But he failed to beat the French record of eight seconds set in the 1991-92 season by Caen's Michel Rio. Bordeaux, who bounced back four days after being knocked out of the French Cup by second division Montpellier, closed the gap on leaders Olympique Lyon to nine points. The 28-year-old Denilson made history in 1998 when he joined Real Betis for a then-world record fee of $35 million but the gifted player has failed to meet huge expectations. Little else happened in a dull game with few highlights in which Bordeaux's defense, the tightest in Ligue 1 with 16 goals conceded from 31 matches, lived up to its reputation. Erneston Chevanton scored a 52nd minute leveler for Monaco in a 1-1 home draw with Paris St Germain. Paulo Cesar had given PSG a 16th minute lead and the team from the capital moved up to eighth in the table. Lyon to face MarseilleLyon will host Marseille in the quarterfinals as they bid to win the French Cup for the first time since 1973. Lille will play at Paris Saint-Germain and Rennes will host second-division Montpellier. Calais, the only team outside the top two divisions, will face Nantes, who beat them in the 2000 French Cup final.
