Eriksson, Mourinho on Real's list
![]() Eriksson will leave his current post with England after the World Cup MADRID, Spain -- England's Sven-Goran Eriksson and Chelsea's Jose Mourinho are among seven names put forward as candidates to become Real Madrid's new coach. Real Madrid president Fernando Martin told Spanish news agency Efe that the shortlist also includes Juventus' Fabio Capello, Liverpool's Rafael Benitez, Arsenal's Arsene Wenger, AC Milan's Carlo Ancelotti and Italy's Marcello Lippi. "We are clear about the type of coach we want," Martin said. "We want one of the coaches that you all know we want. It will be one of these. "I am not going to say them in order of preference, but they are Mourinho, Capello, Benitez, Wenger, Ancelotti, Lippi. The seventh is Eriksson, just so there's no doubt." Eriksson is the only one of the seven who is certain to be free this summer. The Swede, who has been England's coach for five-and-a-half years, is leaving the post after the World Cup. Lippi's contract expires at the end of the tournament, although he may continue if Italy does well. Mourinho, who is close to leading Chelsea to a second straight Premier League title in his second year at Stamford Bridge, is under contract until 2010. Benitez has said he intends to extend his Liverpool contract until 2010, and Ancelotti recently extended his deal at AC Milan. Wenger has said he intends to fulfill his contract with Arsenal, while Capello has another year to run with Juventus. Martin, who replaced Florentino Perez on February 27, did not include former coach Vicente del Bosque, who was recently suggested for a possible return to the club he guided to two Champions League and two Spanish league titles. Worst spellMadrid have not won a major trophy since 2003 -- their worst spell since the early 1950s -- during which Carlos Queiroz, Jose Antonio Camacho, Mariano Garcia Remon, Vanderlei Luxemburgo and Juan Ramon Lopez Caro have all been in charge. Martin has said Lopez Caro's six-month tenure will come to a close when the Spanish season ends in May. The team's only hope of ending its drought this season is through the league title. Madrid lie second, 11 points behind FC Barcelona with eight games remaining. Madrid visit Barcelona on Saturday. Martin, who said there had been "more than 30" applicants for the job, added the next coach would need to possess "the Madrid feeling." The newcomer is expected to be given the freedom to revamp the underachieving team, raising doubts about the future of its star "galacticos" -- who include Ronaldo, David Beckham and Zinedine Zidane. Yet Martin suggested they are likely to remain at the club next season. "None of them are for sale," he said.
