Finnish league throw out Allianssi
YOUR E-MAIL ALERTSHELSINKI, Finland -- Allianssi Vantaa have been thrown out of the Finnish first division due to financial problems after an appeal against the withdrawal of their licence failed. "This means there will be 13 teams playing in the league in the 2006 season," said a Finnish league spokesman. Allianssi's licence was revoked by Finland's football association in January due to the club's financial state. The club were fined 10,000 euros ($12,000) in August for insufficient preparation after losing 8-0 to Haka Valkeakoski. The game attracted unusually heavy betting although a disciplinary committee found no evidence the match was fixed. Late last year, Allianssi broke all ties with Chinese businessman Ye Zheyun, who had taken control in June, saying he had not fulfilled the financial terms of the takeover which included paying off some debts. Earlier this month, Olivier Suray, a former player and Allianssi coach, admitted to Belgium authorities being involved in match-fixing in Finland. Belgian police say Ye is a central figure in their investigation into match-fixing and have issued an international arrest warrant for him.
