Kirkland advised to quit Liverpool
![]() Kirkland will be out for the rest of the season because of a broken finger. LIVERPOOL, England -- Goalkeeper Chris Kirkland has been told he will have to leave Liverpool if he wants to play regular first team football. The 24-year-old, who is currently on loan at Premier League strugglers West Bromwich Albion, is out for the rest of the season with a broken finger. He is due to return to Anfield next season. "It is difficult because he is a good keeper, but with Pepe Reina, Jerzy Dudek and Scott Carson here, playing will not be easy for him," said manager Rafael Benitez. "We have been playing well this season and keeping a lot of clean sheets. We will talk with him and his agent to find a solution. He needs to play games." Kirkland, signed by previous manager Gerard Houllier for £6 million ($10.43 million) in August 2001, has long been tipped as a potential future England keeper - only to suffer a succession of injuries in his career. The 24-year-old broke into the England set-up last year, but has yet to make his debut and will miss out on Sven-Goran Eriksson's World Cup squad.
