Hearts defeated in Edinburgh derby
EDINBURGH, Scotland -- Hearts lost the Edinburgh derby 2-1 to Hibernian to slip up in the race for second place in the Scottish Premier League and a Champions League slot. They have 68 points from 35 games but third-placed Rangers, who are 63, can close the gap to two points if they beat champions Celtic on Sunday. Hibs grabbed the lead after 15 minutes when Ivan Sproule raced through before finding Derek Riordan who fired a low shot into the bottom corner. Hearts levelled before the interval through Czech striker Roman Bednar but Moroccan Abdessalam Benjelloun scored a late winner from a Paul Dalglish pass. "I am very angry about the first half performance," said Hearts caretaker manager Valdas Ivanauskas. " We need to look after our games, but the first half was just the worst ever." Dunfermline won 3-2 in a relegation battle with basement club Livingston, while Inverness Caledonian Thistle beat Dundee United 1-0 with a second-half goal from Craig Dargo. Falkirk drew 1-1 at home to Motherwell while Aberdeen and Kilmarnock fought out a goalless draw.
