Sevilla fans celebrate as the Spanish side reached their first European final.

SEVILLE, Spain -- A stunning extra-time strike from substitute Antonio Puerta gave Sevilla a 1-0 aggregate win over Schalke in their UEFA Cup semifinal, earning the Spaniards a place in their first European final.

The local-born midfielder sent an unstoppable half-volley swerving past keeper Frank Rost, off the post and into the back of the net.

The goal, 10 minutes into extra time, sparked wild celebrations from the 45,000 fans packed into the Sanchez Pizjuan.

Sevilla will now face Middlesbrough in the final in Eindhoven on May 10 after the English side staged an astonishing comeback to beat Steaua Bucharest 4-3 on aggregate to clinch their place in their first UEFA Cup final.

Former UEFA Cup winners Schalke looked as though they would manage to frustrate the Primera Liga side on their home territory but Puerta's flash of brilliance was enough to settle the tie.
